Scientific Neurological Advances in Modern Hypnotism

How many of you have had clients that say, I do not think I was hypnotized. I heard everything that you said. I felt relaxed, or maybe I felt like I was falling asleep, but I do not think I went into hypnosis?  Through the neurological advances of scientific hypnotherapy we can actually validate to our client, as well as to ourselves as hypnotherapists, that we are successfully creating the receptive state of deep hypnosis.

In general, many people have fears and confusion about the term hypnosis. Even the words hypnotized, trance, sleep and hypnosis are widely misunderstood. Now is the time to start dispelling the confusion over these old words which some people incorrectly correlate to mind control or brainwashing. With the use of EEG Hypnotherapy, clients and the general public can be provided with an understanding of neurological brainwave frequency states that are the basis for helping people change their lives.

For the past 25 years I have been testing, experimenting with, and teaching EEG brainwave hypnotherapy. These teachings are based on using an electroencephalograph brainwave frequency monitoring device or EEG diagnostic tool to measure the various receptive depths of hypnosis. Doctors and psychologists have been using EEG for years to help diagnose and treat neurological disorders in the brain such as bi-polar disorders, depression, headaches, migraines, autism and much more. But an EEG can also monitor physiological, respiratory and circulatory changes in our autonomic nervous system, plus amplitude or dynamic levels of brainwave frequency states. These brainwave frequencies have a volume intensity that can be a high dynamic state or a low dynamic state, similar to the volume on your television set. When a person is experiencing strong emotions such as fear, stress or anger, the lower brainwaves will have higher amplitudes or emotional intensity levels registering on an EEG machine. When you utilize an EEG technological device, you scientifically see your client going into these various brainwave level and amplitude states or different levels and depths of hypnosis.

For years, hypnotherapists have utilized signs of respiratory and circulatory changes such as body relaxation, breathing changes, and REM (rapid eye movement) to represent receptive states of hypnosis. These visual representations may be misleading or completely inaccurate. The benefit of using EEG, rather than relying on the visual signs to determine a state of hypnosis, is threefold: accuracy, increased success rate and measured scientific acceptance. Visual physical signs are secondary responses tied into what we call the autonomic nervous system responses. These secondary signs show that a person may be receptive. They are not measurable scientific signs that the client is receptive. Through the utilization of an EEG diagnostic tool, we can see and measure the neurological brainwave frequency changes. By monitoring the primary changes, rather than just the secondary visual changes, we increase our chances of accurately delivering positive suggestions and affirmations to the subconscious mind. We therefore increase our success rate in our clients and, because the process is measurable, we gain acceptance from the scientific community.

Scientific Hypnotherapy is based on EEG brainwave frequency monitoring. Our minds operate on various brainwave frequency states and dynamic volumes, or what we call amplitudes in those frequency states.  Neurological Scientists call these dynamic levels Mind Power. These Brainwave frequencies in relationship to hypnosis represent light, medium, and deep stages of receptibility, but scientifically they are based on brainwave frequency states of beta, alpha, theta, and delta. 

Our minds are similar to dual processing computers consisting of the conscious, which is the logical and reasoning or cognitive aspect of our mind, and the subconscious, which is the programmed behavioral and emotional part of our mind. All of our mind activity can be measured scientifically by utilizing an EEG diagnostic tool. Generally, the lower the brainwave frequency state, the more receptive a client usually is in relation to hypnotherapy. These low brainwave frequency states are classified as theta and delta, which have an average range between 1hz and 7hz. When a client is in the lower brainwave frequency state, the hypnotherapist is able to bypass the conscious cognitive part of the mind and transmit positive mental messages, affirmations and visual imagery to that clients subconscious mind which can help them overcome habits, negative anxieties, obstacles and health issues that may stand in the way of their life.
